Hard techno vs techno: what are the differences
They're similar, share roots, and sometimes even occur in the same session, but they're not the same. We'll explain it to you without technical jargon.
Techno and hard techno are close cousins: they share the same pulse four on the floor, The club culture and that penchant for the hypnotic. But anyone who's ever been on a dance floor notices: they don't click the same way. These are the differences.
The speed
It's the first thing you feel in your body. Techno moves comfortably between the 125 and 135 BPM; Hard techno accelerates and takes hold from the 145-150 BPM, reaching almost 160 in its most extreme versions.
The kick and the energy
Classic techno seeks the groove And the details: a resonant bass drum, atmospheric soundscapes, and a tension that slowly builds. Hard techno gets straight to the point: distorted bass drums, more aggression, and an energy designed to explode on the dance floor from the very first note.
The origin
Techno was born in Detroit in the 80s (Juan Atkins, Derrick May) and became European in Berlin. Hard techno draws from that root but hardened in the raves of the 90s and has made a strong comeback in recent years, winning over a new generation.
